About Us
The name 'Greenheart' came about when, shortly after completing his apprenticeship Stephen's father gave him a wooden mallet made of Greenheart that he had made when he was a young man. Greenheart wood (Chlorocardium rodiei) is one of the hardest woods available famous for its maritime applications and use during dock building; Stephen has always treasured this simple yet very effective tool. Ever since the name Greenheart has held a great significance to him and represents the continuity of cabinet-making heritage passed down to him. Greenheart was founded in 1990 by Stephen Stokes a Fine Art graduate from Liverpool University. Stephen Stokes is a third generation carpenter. After finishing his apprenticeship in 1980 at A.M. Griffith he decided to pursue his love for Art and Design with his father.
Soon after graduating Steve went to a summer art college in Cyprus. Whilst helping a local carpenter he realised he could utilise his artistic talent into making unique, innovative furniture. To begin with he worked out of a small rented workshop hand making bespoke furniture.
As the years went by the business grew. Then, in 2005 Stephen purchased a large workshop on Bessemer road. Greenheart was soon making kitchens for clients across South Wales and Stephen started employing more cabinet makers on a yearly basis. In 2012 our new showroom was opened displaying our new range of furniture.
Greenheart remains one of the few design led furniture manufacturers taking pride in using the finest quality timbers, components and accessories. Our cabinetmaking heritage along with our willingness to incorporate the latest technological developments allows us to deliver our unique connection between tradition and functionality. In this way we add to the functionality and quality of the kitchen without taking away from its character.
This has gained us an excellent reputation in the surrounding area. We have now branched out and created ‘Greenheart Online’ which allows us to deliver our beautifully unique furniture nationwide. By giving you the ability to project manage your kitchen yourself, choosing from our range of over 260 cabinets, you are able to achieve a beautifull kitchen with a bespoke feel without the bespoke price tag.
